Sovereign Grace Church is a non-denominational church based in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales. Our passion is the gospel of Jesus Christ and our main desire is to bring glory to God in our individual lives and in the overall life of the church.

We were planted as a new church in June 2005 out of Christchurch, Newport and in that time we have enjoyed much grace and blessing from God.

We are part of Sovereign Grace Ministries; a family of churches spread across the world, which is led by C.J. Mahaney.

SGCM is not a ‘church’ the way society defines it.

Church is not something we “do” or some place we attend but something we are. We are not a group of people united by similar interests or backgrounds or upbringing, we are a family with members of all ages, backgrounds and interests. We are united by a belief that God is so in love with the people he has made that he pursues them with a passion and a desire that they would receive from him a new, true quality of life, an experience of authentic peace. It is because of who he is and what he has done that we are a close-knit family. Yet, our joy is to continually see new family members becoming part of this community; a community of diverse people who love God, serve one another and aim for the transformation of our town.

Sunday Celebration

Our lives have been changed by the gospel of Jesus Christ. In expressing our heartfelt gratitude and love for our Saviour, we can't overstate the importance of Sunday Celebration. Our meeting is commences at 10:30 each Sunday and provides a context where we worship God together and hear the word of God proclaimed and taught as we grow in our mission as a church. What can you expect? First, we come together with grateful hearts to worship and glorify God. So you can expect to join us as we lift our voices through song and prayer in passionate worship to God. Second, we come together to be refreshed by His presence, encouraged by His promises, and transformed by His truth. So you can expect to encounter God with us in worship and in the preaching of God’s word. Third, we come together to encourage one another. So you can expect to see people caring for each other through prayer, words of encouragement, sharing Scripture, and other ways.

Small Groups

At the heart of the life of SGCM is our small groups. One of the joys of being part of this church is participating in a group with ten to fifteen other people. We call these groups "Care Groups" because their primary purpose is to help each other walk with God in the situations we face in our daily lives. We ask each other about our challenges and seek to find, through prayer and Bible study, how God is working in us and through us as we face the tests of life. This not only involves prayer and counsel and encouragement, but also helping each other with practical needs - such as meals for a family with a newborn or house maintenance projects - so that we can live as a community which displays the love of Christ.
