Stitches

What is Stitches Schools Ministry Team?
Stitches Schools Ministry Team is an integral part of Sovereign Grace Church Merthyr (SGCM) and just one of the ways in which SGCM is seeking to effectively serve, and impact upon, the local community.  The team comprises of a number of folk from SGCM who are working together in local primary schools bringing vibrant, thought provoking assemblies which provide the Christian perspective. People are involved with the team from varying professional backgrounds.

Why is Stitches visiting local Merthyr Schools?
Many people consider that Christianity is boring and largely irrelevant to 21st century life. Nothing could be further from the truth. Stitches hope that by enjoying our assembly presentations, both the young people and teachers would be provoked to consider the claims of Christianity for themselves and so discover the real Jesus as revealed in the Bible. We focus our attention on Merthyr based schools simply because we are wholly committed to the local community.

Why Stitches?
The name Stitches was chosen because it is easy for the young people to remember and is a word synonymous with laughter, healing and repair. In today’s society there is a need for people to experience real joy. Whilst people may seek this in a myriad different ways, we believe that ultimately, lasting joy can only be found in a relationship with God made possible via His only Son, Jesus Christ.  Stitches desire is to communicate the solution to a hurting world.

Mercy Ministries

At SGCM we believe that an integral part of knowing, experiencing and living in the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ is to actively engage in practical deeds of mercy to the poor and needy, to the suffering and oppressed. Primarily, this takes place within one ’s own family unit and within the church family but it doesn’t end there. Our role and privilege is to adopt the mind and heart of Jesus in expressing humility and compassion to those we live amongst. Compassion requires identification with the weak. It doesn’t cave in to fear of failure (the problems are to big for us) or self-serving pride (God helps those who help themselves).

Our goal is to increase in an awareness of the needs around us; to increase in wisdom as to how to utilise our resources to help and to increase in a Christ-like compassion. We love our town and want to make a practical and purposeful contribution to the care of people in this town. We currently have a team of people actively involved in helping us as a church to pursue these goals.

Please contact us to inform us of potential areas where we may be able to make some contrbution.
